Weekly Chores chart September 6, 2010 rikke I really like this chart. I have two sons who both have one chart each. Its visual for the child that can not read yet and it has a variety of chores that you can do as well as additional blank ones that you can fill out. Both my kids like it. Perfect for our household.
Great motivator! August 27, 2010 Sgrtrps (Texas) This chart has been a good motivator for my kids ages 4 and 6. We choose 3 responsibilities for each child each week. It helps them learn how to "own" some responsibilities in a fun way. We review the chart each night before bed to put the smiley faces up. It is durable but heavy - we hung it on a hook made to hang over a drawer in our kitchen. That way it's at a level my kids can easily reach and see. You would need to anchor it heavily if you hang it from a wall. ALmost every responsibility imaginable is listed; and there are two blank ones if you want to add your own (I made one for "try new foods."). Highly recommend!
magnetic chart review August 23, 2010 Carrie A Fiala (Grain Valley, MO United States) This product is great my kids just love it. They are really doing a great job with picking up toys. I do not have to be as much of an authority the board also helps with that part. The set up of the chart is awesome. The only part I feel needs improvement is that I feel there needs to be one more place to store the magnets. Maybe a tri fold. The 2nd area below the chart could be used as a white board area for the kids for extra special tasks etc. I was very pleased though with this product. You could always put the magnets in a baggie and use a tack to keep it beside the chart or one of those hooks and put the magnets in a cloth bag with drawstring.
Excellent chore chart August 21, 2010 Melissa Daley (Monroe, MI) This is an excellent responsibility chart that has gotten my kids motivated to help out. Not only does it teach them responsibility but rewards them with a smiley that they love to place on their chart when they accomplish their tasks. When my kids fill in a weeks worth of smiles then they turn them in for coins! This educational tool helps build self esteem and is a great positive reinforcement tool to get them to help out! There are several premade magnetic chores listed and a couple of blanks for you to make your own. This is a nicely constructed wood chart that is very durable and child friendly, I highly recommend this product!!!!
Great for preschoolers, with a few caveats... August 16, 2010 C. Jensen I got two of these for my 3 and 4.5 year old. The concept has been very motivating for my kids and everything the other reviews said...however, I've had to modify our use of it because several of the "responsibilities" were things that were a little too advanced for my kiddos, especially my three year old. So, I've tried renaming some of them and told him the picture stood for something other than what the tiled stated.
Also, with my preschoolers, the things they need to work on everyday change, but it is sort of a pain to change tiles every day, so we've also tried not putting any set responsibilities on the board and just earning smileys for the day for whatever they do well.
Lastly, the magnets stick just fine to the board but it is a bit of hassle with two boards to pull them all off at the end of every week and stick them back on the bottom board so we've added plastic baggies to just dump them all in which seems to be a little easier.
Usually at the end of the week they get something (1 penny per smiley earned or a Chuck-e-cheese token for three smileys earned) and having a bonus reward seems to help because after awhile, earning smileys just for the self-fulfilled feeling of getting a smiley seemed to wear off. I'd still buy the product again and recommend it to friends with the few modifications we've made.
